ABOUT OUR SERVICES

McKenzie Legal Services provides litigants and those struggling to navigate their way through our justice system with assistance and support. Often, legal matters do not require the services of a lawyer. We provide cost effective legal services and support when lawyers are not required, or are inaccessible.

At McKenzie Legal Services we pride ourselves in providing outstanding service and quality legal support. We are non-lawyer legal professions and will not provide legal advice.

We are non-lawyer legal professionals with 20 years of experience, skill and knowledge from working in law firms. We are now offering our services to our community members and families.

Non-Lawyer legal services is somewhat of a new concept. While our experience, knowledge and skills are not new, offering our services to the public is up and coming. Our communities and families need these services.

We can not offer you a guarantee of outcome or success, but we can tell you that if we make a mistake on documents or the Courthouse expects a document to be edited, we will make sure that happens for you. If it is our error, we fix it, at no charge to you.

We want our reputation to do our marketing for us. Your word of mouth means a lot and we want you to be pleased with your services.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

HISTORY

In the 1970's in London, England a family was divorcing.

The case was McKenzie v McKenzie.

One party had legal counsel; the other couldn't afford it. The self-representing litigant requested permission from the Justice to have a support person attend at trial with her. The Justice granted the request; a support person was permitted to sit at the table with the litigant, while not able to provide legal representation in the higher court was permitted to take notes, help keep her friend organized, hand her documents etc. This support person, has become known as "a McKenzie Friend".

We recognize mediation provides a healthy outlet and option for those experiencing conflict.
We know sometimes you're just looking for information or some help with documentation.
We know sometimes you need to talk to someone about your matter to keep you on track and focused on moving forward.

McKenzie Legal Services is providing access to justice and legal support to those who are self-representing by choice, find themselves with no other option, or those who want a different, healthier way through divorce, separation and family law matters. We also provide assistance with Wills and Estate Administration, WCB claims and appeals, Criminal Record Suspensions and Waiver Applications and procedural support in all levels of Alberta Court.

Sometimes legal advice is needed. We work with a professional circle of lawyers for referral purposes.

HOW ARE WE MORE AFFORDABLE?

We charge you for the time and services you use, as you use them. There is no up-front retainer fee paid to be held by our office.

An agreement is entered into with your service provider for the legal services you are requesting along with the payment method that both parties are most comfortable with.

Fees are paid prior to the meeting or, in relation to document preparation, prior to receipt of the completed documents. Sometimes a deposit is required.

We do our best to keep your fees low; that's one of the main reasons we provide the services we do. There are better places to spend your money!
